Candida Overgrowth Syndrome
By Sarah Rhodes
Avoiding a yeast infection is about controlling the environment around the body so that it is able to stay dry. Avoid douching and using feminine products like wipes or sprays. Avoid bubble baths and soaking in soapy water as it can alter the ph in the vagina. If you wear tight clothes with nylon pantyhose or other similar non-breathable materials, try alternating them with loose fitting clothing and cotton underwear. Cotton is a more breathable fabric and will allow the body to stay drier. If you go swimming or participate in strenuous activities that involve heavy perspiration, it is important to change into dry clothes as soon as possible. During sexual intercourse, use a condom for extra protection and also to avoid spreading a yeast infection to your partner.

Some people believe that candida infection causes, or at least contributes to, fibromyalgia. Dr. William Crook, MD, originally proposed the concept of candidiasis as a contributing factor to a number of difficult-to-diagnose disorders. There is still some controversy about Dr. Crooks work, but more people are beginning to agree that candida may have a role in fibromyalgia and other illnesses.

You should also be careful when using any form of antifungal cream. There have been a number of cases in which these medications have shown little or no effect on yeast infections. This is because the yeast has grown a resistance to the medication. This occurs when the medication is overused, which is why it is important to only use this product when you have been positively diagnosed with yeast infection.

You wish to get rid of yeast infection permanently, but there are a lot of cases that yeast infection keeps coming back even with the use of prescribed medicines and you find your self using products after products which you thought could bring you permanent relief. Some may recommend boric acid as a remedy and you must be warned that it is a toxic substance and should not be taken as a remedy to get rid of yeast infection because it is very harmful and may cause deaths. If you find yourself searching for a permanent way on how to get rid of yeast infection, you must attack the root cause and not the symptoms. Your yeast infection keeps coming back because you just treated the symptoms and not the root cause and the

infection is still there waiting to be triggered again and again.

The common culprit here is Candida albicans. Yeast is present in everyone and lives in harmony along with many other microorganisms in the gastrointestinal tract. However, when there's candida overgrowth, it may cause problems such as oral thrush (white coating under the tongue), bloating, indigestion, lethargy, rectal itching, yeast infection of the skin and frequent bladder infections.

OTC products are of limited use in treating vaginal yeast infections. They tend to be made up of four active ingredients that stop the spread of yeast infection. These drugs are part of the anti-fungal family, which works actively to stop and break down the cell wall of the Candida and bacteria. OTC treatments have been approved by the FDA to effectively stop forms of yeast infection, however, it is useful to be aware that antibiotics may disrupt the balance of healthy bacteria present in the vagina and intestine, which may lead to diarrhea, vaginitis and constipation.

One thing that is rarely taken into account on lasting yeast infections is the fact that yeast is significantly influenced by the vaginas natural monthly fluctuating acid base (PH balance). The pH balance changes with monthly hormonal rhythms. Most women with yeast infections that last for months notice that the symptoms manifest or worsen a few days prior to the onset of menstruation and often clear up or improve when the period ends. Just prior to menstruation and throughout the time of the menstrual flow, the vaginal pH balance becomes significantly more alkaline, allowing yeast colonies that have been in a dormant state to become active and produce symptoms.
